What is GPA?

GPA stands for Grade Point Average. It is a standard way of measuring academic achievement in many countries, particularly in the United States. It is a numerical average of your grades over a specific period, such as a semester or your entire time at a school. Your GPA is often used for college admissions, scholarship applications, and even by some employers.

How to Use the GPA Calculator

This calculator helps you determine your GPA on a standard 4.0 scale. Follow these steps:

  1. For each class, enter the letter grade you received from the dropdown menu.
  2. Enter the number of credits or hours that the class is worth.
  3. Use the "+ Add Course" button to create a row for more classes if needed (optional). The calculator starts with four rows by default.
  4. Your GPA will update automatically as you enter your information.

How GPA is Calculated

The formula for GPA is the total number of grade points earned divided by the total number of credit hours attempted. For each class, the grade points are found by multiplying the points for your letter grade by the number of credits for that class. The calculator sums these values for all your classes and then divides by the total credits to find your final GPA.
